Racist or not?

Choosing to ignore the deep rooted history as to why “go back to where you came from” is racist, is astonishing to me.

You know that friend you use to say, “I’m not racist, one of my closest friends are black”?  Maybe you should ask them their opinion of whether they consider the statement to be racist.  The epitome of white privilege is telling a black person what is and what’s not considered racist.

Andrew Breitbart and FOX owe Shirley Sherrod an apology!

I was floored earlier this week when the falsified story broke about Shirley Sherrod and her so called racist remarks at the NAACP's 20th Annual Freedom Fund Banquet. Andrew Breitbart and FOX News, you guys owe Mrs. Sherrod an apology... A BIG ONE!

In Breitbart's original post http://http//biggovernment.com/abreitbart/2010/07/19/video-proof-the-naacp-awards-racism2010/ he refers to the Democratic Party's attempt to slander the Tea Party and makes the following statement in regard to the "Capitol Hill N Word incident", he says and I quote, "the incident was a manufactured lie". Really, well what on earth did you think the entry you were posting regarding Mrs. Sherrod was? It was completely manufactured, misleading and falsified report.

It was purposeful and it was malicious and it cost Mrs. Sherrod her job. Yes, I understand she's been offered another position, but this will forever be part of her legacy. It's tainted her for life.

So, my question is, what should happen to Breitbart and FOX News? Should there be consequences for their blatant disregard for full disclosure reporting?

Police were called to the home of Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. regarding a possible break in. When officers arrived at the home, they found the Professor there. It seems he had trouble unlocking the door, so he proceeded to have it knocked down. Gates showed the officer his drivers license and Harvard ID card but was still handcuffed and taken into custody for what they are calling "disorderly conduct towards an officer". Professor Gates is claiming it was nothing less than racial profiling and I don't know that I disagree with him. The man is in his own home, he has proof of who he is as well as his address, which matches his location. What else would the officers need to prove he was who he says he is, unless they just wanted to make a spectacle out of him? Charges have been dropped, but that's not the point. There are to many abuses in the criminal justice system and unless someone stands up and says "no more", this will continue to haunt the black community.

Something else that disturbs me about this case is the media coverage of the story. Almost all of the media I've seen have placed photos of Professor Gates coming out of his house, obviously yelling, or pictures of his mugshot. Well, I'm not going to do that to him, in fact I'm going to put a picture of the distinguished black scholar that he is!

We've sure come a long way but stories like this show you just how far we've yet to come.

Stephen Tyrone Johns

Unfortunately the press has spent more time talking about Stephen Tyrone Johns' killer than they have of him. I was really touched and saddened to hear that Johns opened up the door, out of the kindness of his heart, for this elderly man only to be gunned down by him. It's tragic to think that a life has been taken by some crazed lunatic who obviously shouldn't have been on the street let alone allowed to carry firearms. I feel for his family as well has his fellow co-workers and will keep them in my prayers.

Racism in Ohio

This video makes me embarrassed to be white. It's so sad to think that people think like this in 2008 when it comes to race in America. I agree we've come a long way, but small towns like this make you wonder how far we've really come.
