North Korea has sentenced Laura Ling and Euna Lee to 12 years of "hard labor" for being found guilty of a "grave crime". The grave crime they are referring to is illegally crossing into the country and "hostility toward the Korean people". Ling and Lee were sentenced to the maximum amount of 12 years, which can not be appealed as the courts decision is considered final. It's absurd to me that this can happen. I know that you have different rules and regulations when you cross over into another country, but a sentence of 12 years for illegally entering the country doesn't make sense to me.
Reporters Without Borders ranks North Korea as Asia's worst country for press freedom.
